Fire and Water Damage Restoration
In the unfortunate event that you experience a natural disaster such as flooding from hurricanes, wind and water damage, wildfires or claims from electrical fires and or broken pipes, we are here to help. With our special additives most leather goods with soot and smoke or mold from water can be safely cleaned and restored. Some of these items are family heirlooms and cannot just be replaced but need to be restored. We service some of the most reputable fire and water restoration companies and the results speak for themselves.
Specialized Cleaning Process
All though Reaves Leather Care specializes in stain removal and has been doing it for over 50 years, an important aspect is commonly overlooked. The difference from us and getting it cleaned at a less reputable place is we soak our skins in conditioners and cleaning solvent that completely soak the garment all the way thru protecting the entire garment inside and out. Many places literally just wipe your garment down with a wet cloth and spray air freshener on the lining doing nothing to care and maintain your garments oil content and overall life expectancy. The oil content of the skin that your garment is made from will dictate many times whether or not your garment will last thru the years. Here at Reaves Leather Care we generously soak your garment in an oil bath that conditions the skin and will help protect it from any adverse conditions.
Heavy soiling or fire and water damage that would otherwise cause chemical burns or dry rot can be avoided if the skin has been properly maintained with conditioners. All skins will eventually dry out if not treated with conditioners. Some skins will dry out faster than others depending on the thickness of the skin and outside environmental factors it is exposed to.
A question we get a lot is "How often or when should I have my leather coat cleaned?" Answer: You should have it cleaned immediately after an adverse event such as fire or water damage or it having contact with foreign substances or "spills". With leather time is of the essence because the moment a foreign substance is on the skin it starts the drying out process. In general, without any adverse event, having your garment cleaned and conditioned at least once a year is sufficient enough to keep the skin from drying out.
Redyeing and Alterations
All though it is rare that a stain cannot be removed, some stains and/or dye oxidation from sunlight and atmospheric gases cannot be successfully treated. Some paint and ink stains can be removed but some can be permanent depending on their makeup. In these rare cases redying that particular area may be the only option. Additionally, your garment may show signs of wear and tear and have color gone areas that need redying. You may just want a "fresh" look and choose to have your entire garment redyed. With our redyeing methods, we color match the original paint, apply and then clear coat the area to protect it. We also offer general alterations such as zipper replacement, lining replacement, tear repair and hemming. *Please note alterations are only offered as an add on to a cleaning charge. We do not offer alterations only.

"We had pipes bust during that last big freeze and all our stuff got mold including many family furs and a few leather coats. We contacted Reaves Leather Care , they went over a few of the risks involved and we ultimately decided to send them in. We signed up online and shipped everything in. It was easier than I expected. Stuff came back clean and smelling so much better. We were pleased with the service and my wife was less stressed since these particular items were salvageable."
